News:: Deals: Wolfenstein II and upcoming shooters up to 24% off with stacking coupon

Probably the only thing that got our jimmies rustled during E3 this year was the announcement of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. While the sequel to the popular Wolfenstein remake series was expected eventually, it was still a nice reprieve from all those yet-more-Skyrim announcements.

If you're planning to play at or near launch, one of the best deals for the game and similar upcoming first-person shooters can be found this holiday weekend at GMG. Using the stacking coupon code "FPS15E3" you'll be able to take an additional 15% off select triple-A FPS titles, making cheap prices on Doom VFR, Star Wars: Battlefront II, and so-so pricing on Call of Duty: WWII and its ubiquitous digital deluxe edition.

Both Wolfenstein II and Doom VFR have been discounted since their announcement on E3 for pre-order phases - but they've been typically hovering around 10% to 15% off at various digital retailers. At 24% off, this is the best deal we've seen yet.

Upcoming FPS Deals

Use coupon: FPS15E3

The coupon expires next week on July 6 at 1pm Eastern Time. While the pre-order bonuses for Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus haven't been revealed thus far, we're fairly certain it'll be included with your purchase at GMG. Our best guest? Some in-game weapons and skins. The best case scenario is a free copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order given the game is now in $6 territory based on our price history.

News:: Marvel Heroes Omega is out for Xbox One

Marvel Heroes Omega is one of those itch-scratching games that's easy to fall into. Not the best, not the worst, but it gets the job done. The free-to-play action-RPG launched on PlayStation 4 last month with an open beta, and as of today, Xbox One players can beat up droves of henchmen too.

The PS4 open beta brought in a million players, so, yeah. These ports will do well. Marvel Heroes Omega is officially out for PS4 and Xbox One. Download away if you need a new co-op time-killer and try not to fall too far down the free-to-play monetization rabbit hole in search of characters and costumes.

It's just a shame we had to lose the Fantastic Four.

News:: Early Access Review: Oxygen Not Included

It's a new day and a new colony. My duplicants, dead-eyed and bushy-tailed, eagerly dig out rock with abandon in every direction. Beds are placed, power is created, and research is done. Things are looking up!

Wait, why are things looking… dimmer? Why is the oxygen concentration low, suddenly? What is that swirling green gas around the lavatories? Why is everyone so tired all the time? Wait, is that a hydrogen geyser? What happened to all the food? What do you mean, “Otto got stressed out and ate it all”?!

Is that chlorine gas?

Why is everything covered in vomit?

Why is everyone dead?

...So! This new colony! Things are looking up, eh?

News:: Palmer Luckey donates to software that brings Oculus games to Vive

Oculus co-founder Palmer Luckey has always railed against the idea of locking VR games to a single platform. Now, several months after leaving Facebook following controversy about his political donations to a pro-Trump group, Luckey is stepping back into the VR world in a surprising way. Waypoint reports that he's contributing $2,000 a month to the Patreon campaign for Revive, a tool that lets HTC Vive owners play games that are only available on the Oculus Rift.

News:: Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Master Mode is no joke

Are you ready for Master Mode in the first Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLC?

I didn't think I was prepared for the heightened challenge given that enemies are powered up, can have higher maximum levels, and gradually regain their health. Now, after seeing what's waiting for me up on the Great Plateau, I definitely don't think I'm ready for Master Mode. Here's a sample.

In the words of uploader ConvictedBattler, "There is no way I'm going to take on a White Lynel when I have zero weapons." If this is how Master Mode starts, I'm afraid to see how it ends.

There's still plenty left for me to do in my normal save file. That's what I'm telling myself, anyway.

News:: Review: Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas

It isn't often here at Destructoid that we don't review a game that has been released for almost four years across seven platforms, but Oceanhorn is one of those cases.

This Zelda-like started out as an iOS game way back in the age of Obama in the year 2013, before the dark times we currently live in. The developers at Cornfox & Bros. have managed to combine the setting of The Wind Waker with the multi-layered gameplay found in A Link to the Past in a serviceable game that isn't quite on par with an actual Zelda title.

So, basically about what you'd expect from an indie attempting to clone one of Nintendo's biggest franchises.

News:: Mass Effect: Andromeda will reportedly not get any single-player add-ons

Mass Effect: Andromeda has had a tough go of it over the past three months. It launched in a disappointing state, rife with technical issues and tonal problems. BioWare is one of those studios that people expect more from and Andromeda came up short in most everyone's eyes. It was enough to force EA to put the series on ice for the foreseeable future.

We were already positive that there wouldn't be a new Mass Effect game anytime soon, but now we can be reasonably sure that there won't even be a substantial add-on to Andromeda. Kotaku reports that EA and BioWare no longer have plans to release any single-player DLC. The sources for this report appear to be some of the same ones that helped contribute to Kotaku's in-depth postmortem on the troubled development of Andromeda.

In the likely event that this is true, it seems to have been a reactionary move from EA. Andromeda strongly hints at the idea of DLC that explores what happened to the Quarians in their effort to reach the new galaxy. The foundation was laid for at least one story-focused add-on. The base game was so ill-received that the publisher must have decided more single-player content isn't worth the investment.

Apart from any multiplayer DLC, this is probably a wrap on Mass Effect: Andromeda. It's ironic how closely it mirrors the in-game plot. Excitement about something new and promising quickly turned to disappointment and lost faith. Art imitates life, but sometimes they work hand in hand.

News:: StarCraft's Alexei Stukov is coming to Heroes of the Storm

Blizzard promised that 2017 would be a good year for supports in Heroes of the Storm, and they're making good on that promise with Alexei Stukov. Yes the StarCraft Infested Terran is back, and although he doesn't seem like a dedicated healer he does have a secondary supper feel to him.

Stukov relies on investing his teammates for heals, which spread across allies, ensuring that players will have to adapt to tighter formations to get the full effect. The rest of his kit revolves around his garish arm, which fuels his two damage dealing Heroics and a few other standard abilities. As someone who's big on off-supports like Tassadar he'll probably fit right into my playstyle, but I'm not sure if it'll be up to snuff for the rest of the community.

Stukov will hit the Nexus soon -- likely following a PTR period.

News:: 'Rocket League' is the latest X Games eSport on ESPN

Driving giant RC cars around a soccer field and using them to bounce an equally gargantuan ball into the net sounds like the ultimate extreme sport. Unfortunately, Faceit and the X Games will only allow competition in a virtual version of that this year. Of course I'm talking about Rocket League. If you're cool with that, the pair have partnered for the Rocket League Invitational, which will be held in Minneapolis during ESPN's annual extreme sports festival.

News:: Elvira starring in Infinite Warfare: Absolution DLC

Whilst others wrestling with puberty chose Cindy Crawford or Claudia Schiffer, Elvira was the first girl I had a poster of on my wall. The flirtatious horror-host has been a sharp, beloved and funny-as-hell scream queen for decades and is now set to make her first video game appearance since her '90s DOS adventures.

And the sardonic temptress will be making her return in, of all franchises, Call of Duty.

Next month sees the launch of Absolution, an expansion pack for Infinite Warfare. Alongside four new multiplayer maps, included for all your buddy-shooting enjoyment, Absolution features a new chapter for the popular 'Zombies' mode.

Attack of the Radioactive Thing will see four players fight off legions of the undead in a kitsch '50s horror environment, reminiscent of the 'creature features' of the day. Our girl Elvira (Cassandra Peterson) will be on hand to guide players to safety, offering tips, side-quests, and encouragement in her trademark risque manner.

Infinite Warfare: Absolution will drop on PS4 on July 6. PC and Xbox releases are expected at a later date.

News:: 7 things I'd like brought back from when I was a kid...

When I was a kid I was into things. Things that gave me that rare combination of joy and fuzziness I've only since felt for women and tandoori chicken with mint chutney. Some of these things were games and some were literature. Some were activities.

Now if you were a superhero-loving kid or a Transformers-loving kid, well, these days you're either spoiled for choice or shit out of luck. But they never really did anything with the things that I loved. I mean, I know that new Transformers movie is pretty shit/bananas but where's my binge-able Go Bots miniseries Netflix (kidding-don't)?

For that reason, and that reason alone, I've compiled a list of 7 things/games I'd like brought back as games/things, as well as alternatives to sate said nerd lust. Either way, let the games begin. I mean seriously, where is that Turrican HD console compilation and/or remake?

News:: Fumito Ueda offered 'content and tuning' suggestions for the Shadow of the Colossus remake

The PlayStation 4 remake of Shadow of the Colossus was my favorite surprise at E3, bar none.

Sony hasn't said much about the project -- watch this trailer and you'll be up to speed -- but we do know that it's a collaboration between Bluepoint and Japan Studio, and they're targeting 2018.

Is game director and lead designer Fumito Ueda involved? No, not directly.

He's busy figuring out his next game. But speaking with Eurogamer, he explained that he sent over suggestions for the PS4 remake. "I transmitted my petition about the content and tuning but I don't know [if] the implementation will be what I told," Ueda said through a translator.

"Those things of the remake that I would like to change, I can't mention, because if I say one thing and in the final version that thing is not included, it's a problem." Ahh! That only adds to our curiosity!

Ueda did confirm that "there are 16 enemies and there's a story about 16 enemies, so to change this history... I don't think about changing this history. It's finished with 16 enemies. It's OK."

News:: Should you get GoNNER on Switch? Take this quiz and find out

What Binding of Isaac does for The Legend of Zelda, GoNNER comes pretty darn close to doing for Metroid. Like Metroid, it's largely about stumbling upon bizarre new creatures. Some can be peacefully avoided, others require hard and fast hunting, and all the while you'll feel intimidated and excited by the living, breathing alien world you're thrust into. After a few rounds, you'll learn that retreading old ground with new items and weapons allows you to go places and do things that would have seemed impossible at first, giving even more depth to the organic environments.

Unlike most roguelikes, GoNNER balances procedurally generated levels with a fair amount of consistently placed power-ups, all of which can be kept as a permanent part of your initial load-out options. Where many games in the genre don't quickly reward the player for persistence, GoNNER allows you to build both your skill and your ongoing inventory of tools at a fairly brisk pace.

The downside to that is, it won't take your average player as long to see everything here as in comparable games like Isaac and Spelunky. Then again, it's only $10, and still offers the potential for tens of hours of action and discovery, so compared to something like Kamiko, it's definitely not a bad deal.

This is just one of the many pro versus con arguments worth weighing while deciding if GoNNER is right for you. If you still can't decide after reading our review, take the quiz below for some added insight.

News:: D.Va is suiting up to be the next Overwatch statue from Blizzard

Blizzard has revealed that D.Va from Overwatch will be the next character to be turned into a statue, and she'll be joined by her signature mech.

Pre-orders have just opened for the gamer turned soldier, however she comes with a catch. Unlike previous Overwatch statues like Widowmaker, which were priced at $150, D.Va will be a staggering $450, and will be the largest one to date, measuring 19" from floor to head.

News:: There are now 133 amiibo out worldwide, how many do you have?

We've reached a crossroads again. For nearly two years the amiibo hunt has been relatively smooth sailing.

After the Animal Crossing overstock debacle that followed the dark times of Wave 4, Nintendo cooled their jets on just about everything amiibo related, with very little in the way of store exclusives and stock issues. But ever since the announcement that the final trio of Smash amiibo (thus closing out the set folks have been waiting years to complete) would get not one, but two figures each, all hell broke loose again.

Only 5/6 of them are even available to pre-order in the US (Amazon is still holding out on Corrin Player 2), three are exclusive, and most of them are completely sold out. Oh, did I mention that every Zelda amiibo in the Skyward/Majora/Twilight trio is exclusive too? Yeah, Nintendo is at it again.

But through all of that nonsense there are still collectors out there. I loved reading about the journey Jonathan Holmes took last week among many other tales, and although many hardcore enthusiast friends of mine have dropped the habit, several remain. It's true that I haven't hunted (like, "store opening hunted") since Wave 4, but I continue to collect, and actually use, these silly things. As of a GameStop shipment today, I have all of them.

Given that this massive Zelda/Smash wave either dropped or is about to drop respectively, I figured it was a good time to check in on your collection and see how many you've acquired to date. Just so I can steal Darren Nakamura's thunder, I'll make his joke of "none."

News:: The Red Dragon is playing Trevor Belmont in Netflix's Castlevania series

By way of a fireside chat-esque video from producer Adi Shankar, Castlevania's Netflix show cast has been revealed. It'll have none other than Scottish actor Graham McTavish (Uncharted, Preacher) as Dracula and Richard Armitage (The Hobbit, Hannibal) as Trevor Belmont, which is a hell of a way to lead.

It'll also sport Matt Frewer, Tony Amendola, Matt Frewer (Max Headroom, Gargoyles), Emily Swallow, and Alejandra Reynoso. I mean, I'm into the animation, I'm into the cast, I really hope they don't screw this up when it hits on July 7.

If they really hit it big with Castlevania would see a new era of good video game adaptations. I'm getting a big Lodoss War vibe from this one.

News:: Mario 'Monopoly' adds power-ups to the tired classic

If there's one thing that Super Mario Bros. and Monopoly share, it's their innate ability to engender family arguments in otherwise placid households. Which is why it's such a delight to see the pair reunited in the new Gamer Edition of Monopoly, thanks to a partnership 'twixt Hasbro and Nintendo. Unlike previous Mario-themed versions of Monopoly, the rules here have been tweaked to offer a twist on the traditional formula.

News:: You don't have to be a weird nude Muppet man in Nidhogg 2

Much has been said about Nidhogg 2's art direction. Much more will be said.

I understand  the complaints, but for my part, I think the fleshy visuals have an odd charm to them -- sort of like those gross-out close-ups in Ren & Stimpy (or SpongeBob SquarePants, if you prefer).

If you aren't down with the so-called "naked Muppet" designs, there will actually be a way around that, at least to a certain extent. As announced today, Nidhogg 2 will offer character customization.

Nidhogg 2 is on track for a summer release on PC and PlayStation 4. Let's get ugly, y'all.

News:: Japan is getting a four pack for the new Breath of the Wild amiibo

Would it be weird to buy some but not all of the Zelda: Breath of the Wild champion amiibo set?

That's how I roll (Duck Hunt, King Dedede, and Green Yarn Yoshi round out my "collection"), and I don't want Daruk watching over me while I sleep or while I do literally anything, for that matter.

Nintendo of Japan is taking online pre-orders for a bundle with Urbosa, Revali, Mipha, and Daruk for 6,480 yen. It's unclear when exactly these will ship, but they'll be out sometime this year.

For now, let's have a good chuckle at where these figures' stands are positioned.

News:: Nintendo made adorable drawings to pitch the Switch to devs

This is the cutest thing since alpaca babies: in the early days of the Nintendo NX, developers were presented with these use cases for how busy people and families would incorporate a living room console into their mobile lives. Most of the drawings resemble stuff from the DS playbook, which has never ceased to print money. (You can follow Ko Takeuchi's art on Twitter)

I love that all of the illustrations are in the most soothing shade of blue possible, which some psychologists recommend you wear to job interviews and when meeting people you want to get naked with. Think Nintendo was a little nervous to present this to devs? Nah.

For all we know these might have also been used internally to build the damn thing. Why can't Nvidia figure this out?

News:: Oh dang, StarCraft Remastered is only $15

Blizzard has opened pre-orders for StarCraft Remastered and you know what that means: it's not far off! The iconic real-time strategy game (and its Brood War expansion) will be back in our lives on August 14, 2017 looking and sounding better than ever. The remaster is priced reasonably, too -- it's just $15.

Here's a live-action trailer to set the mood.

In terms of what's different in Remastered:

  • Full graphical upgrade of the original StarCraft and the StarCraft: Brood War expansion
  • Widescreen UHD support for up to 4K resolution
  • New matchmaking and leaderboards
  • Player profiles that track individual statistics
  • Cloud saving for campaign progress, hotkeys, and replays
  • Higher fidelity music and sound
  • Switch between Remastered and the original StarCraft with the click of a button!

I'm not the biggest StarCraft dude, but this will still be fun to relive come August.

Pre-purchases include a few bonuses like the Char Hive, Korhal Command Center, and Aiur Nexus building skins, plus Alexei Stukov as a co-op commander in StarCraft II and three player portraits.

News:: The American Dream is all about guns!

Right after we reported on one blatantly obvious satire, here is some news of another one. From the developers behind Screencheat comes the VR extravaganza The American Dream. In the trailer below, you'll see that your hands have been replaced with guns and that you perform everyday actions by shooting at them.

Want a beer? Shoot that shit! Burgers ready to be flipped? Bust a cap in their asses! The trailer is pretty funny, if a bit on the nose, but I'm curious to see how this concept gets expanded into a full game. The trailer description reads:

News:: Dead Cells update brings a new biome, monsters, and weapons

Welp, my weekend plans are made. Motion Twin has a new update for Dead Cells that adds content (monsters, weapons, another area) and shuffles some of the existing stuff. These are the highlights:

  • A new biome: Some say it will get you nowhere but six feet under… But IF you know your way around like a dog knows its bone, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding it!
  • The Island has changed quite a bit. Connections between levels aren't necessarily the same, have fun figuring all that out again (... until the next update).
  • Two news monsters: kill first, ask questions later.
  • New weapons!
  • Many changes to the economy system: you can't buy ALL the things now.
  • Automatic installation of a language mod in your language if one exists. You can still choose to play in English via the options.
  • Promenade got a bit more variety.
  • As usual, tons of balancing.

You can find the full patch notes over here. Weaponized boots, you guys!

If you haven't played Dead Cells yet and you're longing for a snappy new vania, you should strongly consider following Ray's lead and giving this a chance. I prefer to wait on Steam Early Access games until they're in the home stretch, but I caved, and what's here already feels wonderful.
