We're getting down to the wire here with God of War, which launches on April 20 on PS4.
We know the gist -- that it's going to be Dad of War, and that the action so far has been favorably viewed based on hands-on sessions that Sony has provided -- but there are a few details left that folks are curious about. One of those is performance, and director Cory Barlog gave us a small hint (but not the full story) when it comes to what to expect.
He explains that there will be a PS4 Pro option for 4K, but there's also going to be a "smooth" performance mode. In Barlog's words: "If you run in 1080 on pro it will use the power normally used to render in 4k to make the game run faster. It looks/moves sooooooo nice." Fans pressed him to give up a framerate figure but he declined, re-iterating that it was "smooth."
While 60 FPS is ideal for any action title, several games in the series, including franchise-best God of War 2, ran at a variable framerate that would fluctuate between 30 and 50 FPS on average. I'm sure we'll survive if it's not consistently 60, just like we survived Bloodborne and any number of countless modern action games that don't reach that target.
