Last week Thursday Microsoft started up an early Labor Day sale on all things Xbox One S bundles. The deals were okay but not exactly amazing - essentially when you bought select Xbox One S 1TB bundles, you'll get two free games of choice. The games were a bit limiting and thus we shrugged our deal shoulder and carried on.
This changed last night when Microsoft decided to kick things up a notch: they are now introducing Xbox One S 500GB bundle into the mix and even adding in latest and upcoming releases into the free game choice, such as Destiny 2. Before you get super excited though we have bad news for you: Microsoft has already ran out of stock on Destiny 2 as a free choice bundle. Which is quite a shame given all their promotional picture has been updated from miscellaneous games X from last Thursday to Destiny 2 on Saturday night.
Having said that, the free game choices are still decent, with pickings such as Prey, Battlefield 1, For Honor, Injustice 2, Tekken 7, and Dark Souls II Fire Fades Edition. Both Destiny 2 and the recently released Madden 18 are out of stock, and we're not sure if Microsoft will attempt to restock them.
500GB Xbox One S Bundles + Two Free Games of Choice
- Xbox One S 500GB Battlefield 1 Bundle + Two Free Games (Gray or White) — $249 (list price $299)
- 08/25: Xbox One S Madden NFL 18 500GB Bundle + Two Free Games — $249 (list price $279)
- Xbox One S 500GB Gears of War 4 Bundle + Two Free Games (White or Deep Blue) — $249 (list price $299)
- Xbox One S 500GB Forza Horizon 3 Bundle + Two Free Games — $249 (list price $279)
1TB Xbox One S Bundles + Two Free Games of Choice
- Xbox One S 1TB Halo Wars 2 Bundle + Two Free Games — $299 (list price $349)
- Xbox One S 1TB Gears of War 4 Bundle + Two Free Games — $299 (list price $349)
After you pick your first free game of more recent title, the second free game are the usual suspect Ubisoft leftover-infinite-storage-warehouse picks such as Watch Dogs, The Division, The Crew, and who can forget Hasbro Family Fun Pack. For reference, Microsoft has been giving away these games for the past three years. Most of the deals above are still some of the best Xbox One S deals we've seen thus far this year, and the next decent round probably won't show up until holiday season later this year.
The promotion will run through September 9 before the clock strikes midnight Pacific Time. Note that select Xbox One S bundles above will grant you additional perks such as 1 month of free trial on EA Access or Xbox Game Pass. Almost all bundle comes with 14-day free trial to Xbox Live Gold, and additional savings come in the form of $10 savings in Xbox Live Gold 3-month subscription or an additional Xbox One S controller.
Given the Xbox One wireless controller have been discounted by more than $10 before (typically $20 off to $39.99 during a seasonal sale), we'd suggest waiting on that unless there's some co-op title that you must play this very week.
