News:: The worst movie weekend in 16 years just happened

The top ten films this weekend brought in $45 million. It took a terrorist attack on American soil in September of 2001 to create a box office lower than that, but Hollywood managed to do it this time by simply not releasing any interesting movies for two straight weeks (make it three once this weekend rolls around). And that's not even counting for inflation, which would make the comparison even worse to a weekend 16 years ago. Sure there was a punchy face fight and the hurricane hitting the Texas coast to drive folks away from theaters, but the real cause is clearly just a bunch of nothing wasting away on theater screens.

So what's it going to take to get you back into a theater? Is IT going to do it when it release next month? Or maybe you're going to wait for the Oscar bait to start trickling in sometime at the end of October? Or will Hollywood have to wait until Jeff Goldblum, hallowed be his name, saves us all by returning once again in Thor: Ragnarok. Blessed be the Goldblum.
