News:: Nintendo reportedly may produce 18 million Switch units this year

We've known about Nintendo's goal of shipping 10 million Switch units by the first quarter of next year, and thus, potentially eclipsing the Wii U through 2018, but the actual production numbers vary from report to report.

Most recently, the Wall Street Journal alleges that although they still want to ship 10 million by March 2018, a supply chain informed them that they've been told by Nintendo to "prepare 18 million units." Two of the big reasons for shortages include "batteries and flash memory chips," and they've "overcome" the obstacle of creating the detachable Joy-Con in bulk.

Well, now is the time to strike. Nintendo is on the map again in the console world, and eventually, if it does hit say 20 or 30 million by 2019, we could look at a full-on pivot to this "part console, part portable" device.
