See that headline? Good. Read it again. Here it is in case you don't want to look up: "There's going to be a Castlevania Netflix Original series this year."
The reason for the sass in the opening paragraph is because the headline is all that we really know about this. Netflix has announced its near-future original programming and among the entries is "Castlevania Season 1, Part 1 Coming to Netflix in 2017." Anything beyond that is speculation.
But, as Gizmodo points out, at least our speculation can be rooted in plausibility. This is probably the project that Adventure Time production company Frederator Networks and producer Adi Shankar are collaborating on. Late last year, Frederator owner Fred Seibert said this on an episode of the Nick Animation podcast:
