News::Video Game Museum Resurrecting Long-Dead MMO Habitat

This Sunday, The Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment in Oakland, CA sponsored a Hackathon to attempt to relaunch Habitat, a LucasArts MMO released for the Commodore 64 in 1986. Habitat is considered a hugely influential precursor to modern MMOs, and is often cited as a breakthrough for online communities. The game was incredibly ambitious project on its release. It used a network of Commodores connected over dial-up internet to create a virtual online community. Hamish McPherson takes a closer look at a title some consider to have invented the word "avatar".
