Despite being technologically obsolete, swords being anchored in yesteryear has done nothing to prevent them from being featured in a plethora of videogames stemming from all eras. Be it Link wielding the Master Sword in the fantastic world of Hyrule or Cloud slashing through dystopian monarchies in the slums of Midgar, swords are a welcome addition to all decades and genres. There are dozens of reasons for the swords continued popularity in videogames. They allow for great gameplay possibilities, they retain a nostalgic charm and as a rose is a rose is a rose, swords also just look cool.
