While Dota 2 has yet to reach its August release date, players can now download the client for free, but only the tutorial and spectator modes are available.
After downloading Dota 2 from Steam and going through the tutorial, players can hop into the spectator modes, where they can view games from anyone who broadcasts them. Presumably, the change from Valve is meant to allow players to use the in-client spectator mode to view the matches leading up to The International.
Beta invites or a purchase of early access is still required to play Dota 2.
