News:: Niantic says cooperative 'experiences' are coming to Pokemon Go

In a blog post discussing recent award wins for Pokemon Go, developer Niantic included a short but promising tease about its near-future content plans. What do you make of this? "With spring arriving in the northern hemisphere, players can look forward to all new cooperative social gameplay experiences in Pokémon GO that will give Trainers new and exciting reasons to get back into the sunshine."

What this update could and should entail is up for debate, but some players are speculating that it might tie into a not-yet-fully-implemented "raid" feature and/or a possible gym rework. That sounds believable enough, and I'm brought back to that cool but unrepresentative live-action trailer in which a huge group of strangers worked together to beat up and catch Mewtwo in Times Square.

As it stands, it is possible to play Go alongside others and form genuine connections, but more than that, I'd like to see features that actively encourage (but don't require) players to cooperate.

It's amusing to think about the sustained crowds that formed at the height of the game's popularity. If people are willing to swarm for Vaporeon, imagine what a legendary sighting could do.

Thank you... [Niantic via reddit]
