I have a story associated with every one of the 30 games that comprise the NES Classic Edition package, launching later this month, and I'm guessing a lot of you out there do too. Even if you weren't old enough to play the NES when it was released, through the magic of the virtual console system or remakes, odds are you've touched the first Metroid, Donkey Kong, or Mario 3 at some point.
While the lineup isn't perfect, it's clear that a number of them were hand-picked (Mega Man 2 and Double Dragon II over the first), and many were chosen with co-op in mind. So what am I playing first? Mega Man 2 for sure. It's been a few months, so I'm eager to dive in and speedrun it again with a friend of mine who's also picking up the system. Beyond that I want to show my wife how amazing Double Dragon II is by way of co-op (and teach her the super kick and super knee), while she schools me in the ways of Super C, a game she played with her dad.
I've created a list of all of the western releases (we get Bubble Bobble, Donkey Kong Jr., Final Fantasy, Castlevania II, Punch Out!!, Kid Icarus, Tecmo Bowl, and StarTropics, while the east gets Atlantis no Nazo, River City Ransom, Downtown Nekketsu, Final Fantasy III, NES Open Tournament Golf, Tsuppari Ozumo, Solomon's Key, and Yie Ar Kung-Fu instead), so feel free to let us know what your favorite is.
