When the creator of Mega Man, Keiji Inafune, introduced his newest project to the world Mighty No. 9 it was clear where his inspiration came from. Mighty No. 9 is essentially a Mega Man game, right down to its art style, non-linearity, and emphasis on earning the weapons of fallen enemies.
