News::E3 2013: every new Xbox One game

Microsoft revealed a host of new Xbox One games at its media briefing today. It opened with new footage from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which briefly tempted series overlord Hideo Kojima to the stage.

Next, we saw confirmation that Crytek’s next project Ryse: Son Of Rome is an Xbox One launch title and that Killer Instinct would be returning. A later section of the showcase showed off live gameplay battle between Jago and Sabrewulf, video footage of which captured and uploaded to the Xbox One’s video sharing service, announced as a partnership with Twitch.

Former Sony partner Insomniac Games revealed its Xbox One exclusive, Sunset Overdrive. It was described by Ted Price as an openworld shooter which evolves alongside its community and “facilitated by the cloud.” It’s “something we can only do on Xbox One,” said Price.

Next, Phil Harrison took to the stage, in order to state Microsoft’s commitment to independent development. During this section we saw Mojang’s Minecraft: Xbox One Edition, and a little more of Remedy’s intriguing new title Quantum Break.

D4, a new game from indie Swery64, was also shown for the first time, and described as a cel-shaded episodic murder mystery. Microsoft Studios gave a good chunk of stage time to Project Spark, too, a new world building and game creation tool.

Turn10 debuted a new Forza Motorsport 5 trailer, created entirely from in-game footage as well as revealing its new “Drivertar” system. The awkward portmanteau refers to the game’s cloud-powered understudy that learns how to drive based on your own performance in the game. There Drivertars will then race online in your absence, earning you credits in the process.

Your opponents will be other players’ Drivertars, which Turn 10 promises will offer more human competition. It will be, the studio boasts, “the end of AI”.

Crimson Dragon, from the creator of Panzer Dragoon, look to be very much a spiritual successor of that game, and later, Capcom Vancouver revealed Dead Rising 3 and its new hero Nick Ramos. It is an openworld zombie thriller with weapon crafting and is an Xbox One exclusive.
