News:: Xbox is looking to open and acquire game studios

An oft-levied complaint of Xbox is that it doesn't have enough exclusives. The focus over the past few holiday seasons has been to grow the Xbox One install base -- which has worked, and seems set to grow again this year with the launch of the Xbox One X -- but now the attention has to switch to software.

Xbox head Phil Spencer makes that tacit admission in a recent interview with Bloomberg. "We need to grow, and I look forward to doing that," Spencer remarks. "Our ability to go create content has to be one of our strengths. We haven't always invested at the same level. We've gone through ups and downs in the investment."

What he means is that Xbox is planning to open new studios and to acquire existing ones. Spencer didn't mention any sort of details such as how many subsidiaries it's aiming for, what kind of projects they'll have, or when any of this will happen. All we know is that he wants more studios under the Xbox banner.
