Strolls, not spooks, are the theme for October's Games with Gold on Xbox. Halloween would be the easy and obvious route, but next month's freebies for Xbox Live Gold subscribers mostly ignore that. Well, big deserted houses can be kind of scary.
On Xbox One, Fullbright's Gone Home is the most well-known of October's Games with Gold. It originally released in 2013, but only sauntered to Xbox in early 2016. Gone Home's place in video game history is well-disputed in thinkpieces and comment sections across the internet; I expect the same will likely happen again in this very comment section.
Halfway through the month, space station puzzler The Turing Test becomes the second Xbox One Gold game. The Turing Test is the follow-up project from the creators of Pneuma: Breath of Life. I had a chance to demo it at GDC a few years ago, and I thought it showed better puzzle design than Pneuma ever did.
As for Xbox 360, Rayman 3 HD is free for the first half of October. Then, on October 16, Medal of Honor: Airborne takes over for the rest of the month. As always, the Xbox 360 Games with Gold are all backward compatible to play on Xbox One.
