News::Far Cry 4 Review - 8BitChimp

Jeremy says, "Far Cry 4 is a fantastic game. Though the story may not be the strongest in the first-person shooter genre, the gameplay mechanics, graphics and visuals, location, random antics and (not tacked on) multiplayer makes up for the narratives short comings."

News::A Bird Story (SteamFirst Review) Not A Toronto Film Festival Finalist

SteamFirst: Right up front, the reader should know: A Bird Story is not a game in the common sense of the word. Much like my previous experience with Sakura Spirit, there isnt any player agency given to deserve a comment. Here you simply control an avatar when the game tells you and follow basic instructions. I knew this going in, but was expecting something more in the line of options as to how the story played out. A more accurate description would be that this was an interactive art piece, one that would have been better served by removing what little interactivity there is and simply telling the story.

News::Company of Heroes 2: Ardennes Assault Review - Digitalchumps

Digitalchumps: "Relic's popular Company of Heroes RTS is back with a new standalone expansion pack that focuses on the Allied war effort during the Battle of the Bulge. Company of Heroes has been a successful PC-exclusive RTS franchise for many years. I remember being at the unveiling at E3 several years ago and always thought the series looked promising, and it wasn't all that long ago that I finally got around to playing CoH2. Impressed, although eventually rediscovering that my type of RTS is of the sci-fi variety (ala Command & Conquer), I didn't stick with it. However, when given the opportunity to review Ardennes Assault, I was looking forward to change of pace and to try my hand at taking on the Oberkommando West across regions of Belgium."

News::XCOM: Enemy Within review - Post Arcade

Post Arcade: "This game was reviewed on an iPad Air 2 running iOS 8.8.1. Regular readers know that I typically spend evenings playing games on my iPad while watching TV with my wife. Weve been binge-watching the The Americans over the last couple of weeks. I love the show whats not to like about cold war spy stories mixed with a bit of 80s nostalgia? but I confess I have no idea whats happened over the last dozen episodes. Thats because I havent been able to pull my eyes away from XCOM: Enemy Within, the new iOS port of an expansion to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, one of the best turn-based strategy games of the last decade."

News::Will Mass Effect 4 go the way of GTA 5 and suffer a huge PC release delay?

Its universally accepted that the Mass Effect trilogy is one of the greatest series of games ever made. Indeed, many lists often place Mass Effect 2 as their greatest game of all time. With Bioware now confirming the beta testing is well under way for Mass Effect 4, and the series having fared so well on the windows platform in the past, surely it would sacrilege for this fourth game to suffer a huge delay between hitting the next gen consoles and getting a PC release much in the same way Grand Theft Auto 5 has. If rumors are to be believed, then this could be a possibility.

News::Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham Review - Newgamenetwork

NGN: "Playing Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham after Lego Marvel Super Heroes does little to hide the comparative paucity of star power in DCs lineup. Beyond the Batman and Superman universes, youre almost constantly left shrugging your shoulders at the characters on your screen. This is notable from an early cutscene with a selection of naughty Lanterns messing about in space, which will have all but regular DC readers shrugging their shoulders with indifference until the Joker and Lex Luthor show up to add a bit of class to the villains stable."

News::Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Review - XBA

XBA: On paper, Geometry Wars doesn't exactly sound like a winner. You pilot a little ship shooting various shapes until your hand curls up into an arthritic, dead spider shape. That there in a nutshell is Geometry Wars, but bloody hell it's addictive. Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions takes the 2D template of the previous games and drags it kicking and screaming into the third dimension, meaning all manner of twisted 3D forms to navigate while shooting enemies. It's possibly the toughest in the series yet."

News::Controversy strikes top eSports tournament yet again

The world's largest pro tournament for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive remains steeped in controversy, with tournament officials ordering the replay of a quarterfinal match today until one of the sides forfeited. Fnatic, playing on its home turf of Sweden and one of eSports' top CS:GO teams, faced a nine-round deficit in its showdown with French opponent LDLC, then deployed a boost (in which one player jumps off of another) to reach an unknown map position that offered them a huge advantage. Fnatic prevailed 16-13 and appeared to move on. The two sides had been playing on Overpass, a map released in December of last year (Counter-Strike: Global Offensive launched in August 2012). LDLC filed a complaint about Fnatic's use of the boosting.

News::The case for 30fps PC gaming - Digital Foundry

Eurogamer: "Top-of-the-line enthusiast gaming PCs are built for raw performance, boasting technical specifications with far more horsepower than the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, opening up a wealth of gameplay options unavailable to console owners. If you fancy gaming at 2.5K, or 4K, at 60fps, 120fps or even higher, the PC is the only format with the flexibility and scalability to deliver. But that's not to say that the console-standard 30fps isn't a good fit for certain hardware specs, or specific titles. In a wealth of scenarios, limiting frame-rate can result in a markedly smoother gameplay experience. There's just one problem - only the tiniest minority of PC games actually offer the option to run at a lacked 30fps."

Kevin from Denkiphile: "Coming straight out of left field, Five Nights at Freddys was an excellent entry to a genre that I feel has gotten very stale very quickly. A look at most horror games now reveals a lot of shoddy stealth mechanics, uninspired art direction, and terribly predictable AI. Five Nights at Freddys did away with all that, with its crude mid-90s feel, ridiculously scary presentation, and crisp, yet terrifying gameplay. I just wish its sequel was as good because unfortunately, it isnt."

News::Dragon Age: Inquisition freecam mod allows for some truly gorgeous screenshots

Over the weekend, Gamer Headlines reported on a recent Dragon Age: Inquisition mod (technically a hack via CheatEngine table) that allowed for total freecam control of the camera, allowing PC gamers to play the game from a perspective akin to Dragon Age: Origins isometric/tactical view. While that is perfectly fine and dandy, it appears that some more artistically inclined Dragon Age: Inquisition players are utilizing the aforementioned freecam mod to capture some truly captivating screenshots of the game. In particular, a reddit and Flickr user by the name of Berduu has employed the aforementioned Dragon Age: Inquisition mod in his game and taken some gorgeous screen captures from the game. Honestly, it's tough to shake the fact that they were taken directly in-game seeing as they look more like concept art or paintings.

News::Far Cry 4 Review - Hookedgamers

Hookedgamers: "I'm just going to lay this out in the open since I know it's the answer for the question everyone is asking. Yes, Far Cry 4 is very much like Far Cry 3. However, Far Cry 3 was a very good game so this is far from a bad thing. What reason is there then to look into Far Cry 4? Several, as a matter of fact. Far Cry 4 takes us out of the warm tropics and far away from pirates and mercenaries to take on something far more sinister, in a much more enthralling setting."

News::Far Cry 4 Review - Gamesxtreme

GE: "I loved Far Cry 3, not for the story or the NPCs that hung around the protagonist like dead-weights around his neck, not even for Vaas who was a delightfully twisted mad-man and became the very definition of insanity - I loved it for the sheer openness and the sense of organic driven gameplay it provided when you weren't rolling from mission A to B for the storyline. What, back then, I said would make this game even better is more of everything. Ubisoft must have heard me, and every other Far Cry player out there because Far Cry 4 is stuffed to the gills with things to do, see, shoot, explore, explode, burn and hunt."

News::Review: Tales from the Borderlands: Episode 1 Zer0 Sum - HardcoreGamer

HG: "Comedy and drama seem to exist on opposite ends of the narrative spectrum. Often times, purposely injecting humor into a dramatic tale, or vise versa, feels inorganic and forced. The most talented writers find a way to teeter along the proverbial fence separating the two extremes, masterfully blending suspense and absurdity. In recent years, Telltale Games has shown us that it has the capability of penning spectacular dramatic stories, as The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us consistently keep players on the edges of their seats. With Tales from the Borderlands first episode Zer0 Sum, a series set in the Borderlands universe that actually requires no investment in the original shooters, the heralded narrative development studio has shown that their writing chops extend far further than mere drama. Whats more, when youre not laughing at one of the numerous chuckle-inspiring moments, youll find yourself actually caring about the fate of your lovable group of galactic misf...

News::Far Cry 4 Review - XBA

XBA: "Sequels dont get much more sequelly than Far Cry 4. Where Far Cry 3 took the bare bones of Far Cry 2 (open world, exotic location, outposts, deranged bad dudes) and turned it into something altogether more crowd-pleasing, Far Cry 4 builds on its predecessor by essentially adding loads more of the same. And I do mean loads. Expect more animals, more outposts, fortresses, a larger world, more toys, more trippy diversions, co-op, countless side quests and a baddie thats possibly the most outlandish, over-the-top, howl-at-the-moon kook to have ever graced the series. Its a classic video game industry move: give em more of what they want. And for the most part, its bloody fantastic."

News::Tales from the Borderlands review - Financial Post

Financialpost: "Borderlands may seem a bit of an odd fit for a Telltale Games project, at least a first glance. Gearboxs sci-fi RPGs are packed with first-person shooting action, thrive on looting and exploration, and are best enjoyed with a group of friends. None of these things call to mind Telltales most popular titles such as their Walking Dead games which are driven by story rather than action, focus on lengthy conversations between characters, and are thoroughly solitary experiences."

News::Never Alone Game Guide

Marcus Estrada writes: "Never Alone may not be a crowdfunded game, but it sure has a ton of heart. With great visuals, a story told from a unique perspective, and neat documentary features interspersed, this is one game worth completing. As a puzzle platformer, there are some tough spots though! If youre looking for help then youve come to the right place. This game guide should serve as a walkthrough of the entire game, which takes around 4 to 6 hours to complete. Of course, it will only really discuss moments of actual puzzle (that way, I dont have to type walk right a million times over)."

News::Tales from the Borderlands Ep. 1: Zer0 Sum Review No Rest for the Wicked - PSLS

"Is it Telltale? Or is it Borderlands? Its always an exciting opportunity to get to see a crossover between two titans such as these, but its even more ineffable when the lines between that crossover are so finely blurred that you cant tell where one stops and the other begins. Telltale is a narrative powerhouse, telling excellent stories and offering player driven anecdotes that are guided by choice. Borderlands is a modern gaming staple that has made a massive impact on the industry with its noteworthy graphical style and shoot-and-loot style gameplay. Is Borderlands ripe with narrative fruit, or are Telltale in over their heads?" - PSLS

News::Tales From The Borderlands: Zer0 Sum Review I Hey Poor Player

Hey Poor Player's Francis DiPersio writes- When Tales from the Borderlands was first announced it was easy to feel a bit skeptical as to whether or not Telltale Games could deliver as far as spinning a yarn as grand as The Walking Dead or The Wolf Among Us. Dont get me wrong; while the Borderlands titles have always featured some enjoyable writing, the narrative itself is usually buried under mountains of bullet-riddled bodies and shimmering loot. In the dangerous, bandit-filled wastelands of Pandora, the story has always taken backseat to wholesale destruction, the pursuit of bigger, badder guns and even bigger, badder psychopaths to blast into mountains of twitching meat.

Back when the likes of Newgrounds ruled the Internet when it was still in its infancy. We of a certain generation recall greatly the freshness of the World Wide Web and the free game portals that made browsing colourful and interesting. What a time to be alive. Reminiscing was an initial reaction in this instance, as I couldnt help but recall a simpler time on the Internet while playing Mission Critical Studios new game, Crab Cakes Rescue, a cutesy puzzle platformer that transports us back across the ages to an era when video games held onto the basic principle that fun and simple should be top priorities.

News::10 Cringeworthy Video Game Scenes That Made You Feel Dirty

Over the years theres been plenty of games that have tried (and failed) to show sexuality convincingly with results more often than not causing revulsion or fits of laughter rather than the desired arousal or emotion connection a sex scene can convey. Outside of those moments though, gaming is littered with little shots or sequences that, while most likely well humoured or intended to be entirely silly, come off as pretty wrong in almost everyones eyes. Heres 10 of the worst offenders.

In all, there were nearly 40 individuals who offered their stories, history, and discussion to help turn Never Alone into a game which its community could be proud of. Why have other developers avoided trying something similar? In many ways, it probably feels risky - but so far the response to this game has been immensely positive."
