Gearbox's Duke Nukem Forever may be a let down, but things are looking up with the release of a fan-made mod that recreates Duke Nukem Forever's E3 2001 trailer in the Duke Nukem 3D engine. The results are glorious.
Let me tell you. I have rode a donkey at approx. 3 miles per hour while shooting pigs with a shotgun, as a nuclear explosion happens off in the distance. Like I said, glorious.
This five map mod can be downloaded for free at Mod DB. You will need drop the "duke3d.grp" file from your Duke Nukem 3D folder into DNF 2013's directory to play the game. Whether you have a CD copy, GOG download, or Steam version, it should run.
DNF 2013 includes all the nice mod plugins like high-res texture, widescreen support, and mouse look. The whole thing is an unbelievably well done package for something that is basically a joke and bizarre fan service.
Hats off to Gambini and Mikko Sandt at MSDN for creating this unexpected, faithful tribute.
